Album Review

Flo-Rida Mail On Sunday

Flo Rida has created a party host dream album with his debut LP “Mail On Sunday”, with every type of party song in attendance, a Dj could literally power a club on just Flo-Rida for weeks. He starts off his album with an upbeat club rocker featuring lil’ Wayne who surprisingly ends up slowing down the song with his more lyrically focused flow. This trend continues even when you get to a song like “Elevator” whose opening beat is slow and built for well placed lyrics but Timberland quickly speeds this up and it becomes the standard club rocker.

Something weird happens around the Track 6 that’s never happened to me while listening to a hip hop album, I forgot it was on and it became background/elevator music. Now I’m not sure if this is because Baby starts rapping or because this album isn’t meant to be listened to and studied, but danced to. The amount of catchy club tracks who’s hooks will stick in your head much longer than you would like is impressive and hasn’t been seen since Nelly’s second album.

The downside to this album is a lot of Hip Hop fans aren’t Dj’s and party host, they are hip hop heads who want either substance or cleverness, females who want strongly R&B influenced, and suburban white kids who wanna feel gangsta for 80 minutes. This album only barely pays lip service to each of these demographics, for the ladies he offers up the song, ”Me & U” about everlasting love. For our urban and suburban crowd, he discusses his hard road to get to this destination and all the hustling he had to do on the song “All My Life”. Lastly in an attempt to impress the hip hop fans, he created a clever song called “Still Missing” in which he personifies garden tools to describe the lost of his girl: I take care of yalllll errday / don’t know why my hoe got missing / my rake in good condition / my lawn mower in position.

Don’t get the impression that I think this album is bad or that Flo Rida can’t rap, because neither is true. He just clearly set out to make a certain type of album and in the process ostracized a majority of the people who listen to the genre. If you wish to hear a different side of Flo Rida, just check out his mix-tape “Welcome to Flo Rida”.

Jay-Z reportedly closed a $150 million deal with Live Nation. Live Nation will handle all aspects of Jay's entertainment, touring, and endorsement deals. His current tour with Mary J. Blige is sponsered by Live Nation.

Usher's new album, "Here I Stand", is expected to drop May 27th.

Fabo of D4L escaped criminal charges stemming from a routine traffic stop in which ecstasy, marijuana, and a gun was found. His co-defendant pled guilty.

Female MC Foxy Brown is counting down the days until her release from prison and is launching a reality show on VH1.

This is a rumor but supposedly Jay-Z and Beyonce were married in a very small ceremony today.

Jay-Z wins. There seems to be a little controversy about the beat used for Usher's single "Love In This Club" produced by Polow Da Don. It seems Mr. Da Don used a premade synth from a program called Garage Band. Check the video below.

Remy Ma plans to appeal the verdict handed down by the Manhattan Supreme Court onThursday. Remy was found guilty of four charges which could carry a prison sentence of up to 25 years.

In other news regarding Remy, she still plans on wedding rapper Papoose this summer. The intial plan was to have the ceremony on a yacht but plans have changed. Remy and Pap are now planning to wed in a prison ceremony.

Rapper T.I. doesn't have to start his one year sentence until March 27, 2009.

Fabolous associate, Freck Billionaire, was arrested Tuesday March 25 for selling narcotics to an undercover police officer. He also has warrants for his arrest in Philadelphia for parole volation, missing a court appearance, and giving false information. He describes on his myspace page his illicit activities.

Rapper, actor, director, Ice Cube has recently sold his script to Dimension Films. This is the first script he has written since "Friday After Next". The name of the movie is "Janky Promoters". Cube is also working on his 9th studio album "Raw Footage".

SMH at the camera guy whispering "Hit her again, hit her again!" and everyone standing around just letting him beat on her. Shorty got a mean left hand though.

They Reminsce Over You...

Remy Ma has been found guilty on four out of the nine charges she faced.; 2 counts of first degree assault, attempted coercion, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The charges stem from the shooting of Markeda Barnes-Joseph after an altercation with Remy Ma, born Remy Smith. Allegedly Smith shot Barnes-Joseph after accusing her of stealing $3,000 in cash. The defense tried to convince the jury the shooting was accidential.

Remy was not found guilty of gang assault and witness tampering.

She faces five to twenty five years behind bars.

I'm hurt cause i'm actually a Remy fan but that's how it goes. Does that mean she is no longer marrying Papoose? And what is going to become of the female MC because Remy was the best....

T.I. Update

According to rumors Rapper T.I. is going to plead guilty to federal gun charges. T.I., born Clifford Harris, faces 10 years in a federal penitentary of convicted.

The report says the plea deal will allow Harris to serve around 12 months in prison and do 1500 hours of community service. The judge is expected to review the plea at around 1:30pm.

I don't know about ya'll but I wouldn't wanna go to court against the FEDS either, they have like a 86 percent conviction rate. TIP and TI might dodge a bullet with this one (no pun intended).

News....

Two more album release dates were announced today. Florida based rapper, Plies, announced that his second album, "Definition of Real", will be released on June 24. Plies' first album, "The Real Testament" was certified gold. Plies has also teamed up with the magazine Don Diva, to promote his upcoming prison tour. The first single off the new album is entitled "Bust It Baby Pt. 2".

Lil' Wayne has announced the release date for his highly anticipated album, "The Carter III". The album is slated to drop May 13 and Wayne's new single "Lollipop" is getting spins all over the country.

It's gonna be a hot summer!! Where is Cam'ron?

Rapper, Game, has announced that his highly anticipated album, L.A.X. (Los Angelos Times) will be released June 24 the first day of summer. When asked about the album Game responded "On Lax I'm addressing real issues that other artists might be scared to talk about on record."

Game was just recently released from Twin Tower Correctional facility after serving 8 of a 60 day sentence all stemming from an incident at a basketball game. According to a lawsuit filed Game punched a man then threatened to "blast him" while brandishing a weapon. He pled no contest and was sentenced to 60 days.

In other news, female MC Remy Ma has been in the news recently regarding her trial for first degree assault. Remy Ma, born Remy Smith is accused of shooting a former friend, Markeda Barnes-Joseph, last July. The shooting took place after Remy discover $3,000 was missing from her purse. She accused Barnes-Joseph and demanded that she empty the contents of her purse. After which she was allegedly shot by Remy.

Now, in Barnes-Joseph's own testimony, she claims that the gun went off during the struggle for the bag. Early last week Barnes-Joseph dropped her 20 million dollar civil suit against Remy. Remy faces 25 years in prison if convicted.

Last and least, a 12-year old boy was arrested for throwing a rock through Soulja Boy's tour bus windshield during a stop in Illinois last Thursday. When question by police as to why he did it, he told officers "I hate Soulja Boy!"

I'm not a Soulja Boy fan either but they go hard in Illinois!!
